Yellow Peril Stands with Black Power
Though there have been many revolutions that pushed for the rights for people of color, the Civil Rights Movement was the main conduit that inspired many Asian Americans like Yuri Kochiyama to speak up. I designed this shirt as a way to stand in solidarity with Black Lives Matter and to spread the history of Asian Americans in the Civil Rights Movement.
The shirt color is a play on the phrase, "Black Gold," the gold representing Asian Americans as well as the royalty and pride of being a person of color. The reason I chose blue rather than a black shirt is because a person's skin can become so dark that their pigment gives off a blue hue. This combination of blue and gold represents people of color of all skin tones. I also chose blue and gold because it's a pretty awesome color combination.
